About Hogan's Jewelers
For over 60 years, Hogan’s Jewelers has been a cherished fixture in downtown Gaylord, Michigan. Founded by Ollie and Geraldine Hogan in 1958, the family business began on Main Street and soon became an integral part of the community. Known as the “Ambassador of Main Street,” Ollie was famous for his daily walks and selling jewelry right from his vest pocket, while Gerry managed the business side and even handled Michigan Secretary of State duties for a time. Their commitment to the community laid the foundation for a legacy of exceptional service and personal connections.
In 1980, Gene and Betsy Hogan Sanders took over the store from Betsy’s parents, continuing the family tradition. Gene expanded the business to include a showroom for clocks, fine crystal, and collectibles, and was among the first in northern Michigan to employ full-time goldsmiths and bench jewelers for on-site repairs. While Gene ran the store, Betsy dedicated herself to teaching at Gaylord High School. Together, they raised three children who all worked at the store as teenagers. The remodeled showroom, transformed into a diamond room for the store’s 50th anniversary, now houses an extensive collection of diamonds, colored gemstones, gold ring mountings, watches, and high-quality fashion jewelry.
After Gene’s passing in 2010, Betsy assumed full responsibility for the store until her retirement in 2021. Honoring Gene’s wishes, Betsy entrusted Hogan’s Jewelers to Eryn Collins, Gene’s right-hand woman since she was 15. Eryn’s deep connection to the Hogan family and the community ensures that the tradition of providing exceptional service and value continues. Hogan’s Jewelers remains dedicated to “helping you love the ones you love,” a philosophy that has guided them for over six decades and will continue to do so for many more.
